Accessibility Statement

This statement was last updated on November 13, 2025.

OUT in Costa Rica is committed to making our website, content, and services accessible, welcoming, and affirming for everyone — including people with disabilities, neurodivergent users, Deaf and hard-of-hearing people, blind and low-vision users, mobility-impaired users, and anyone who relies on assistive technology.

As a platform created by and for LGBTQIA+ people, we believe accessibility is inclusion. This statement outlines the steps we take, the standards we aim to meet, and how you can get help if you encounter a barrier.

1. Our Accessibility Goal

We strive to meet WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility guidelines and continuously improve the usability of our website and services.

OUT in Costa Rica is built on the Wix platform, which provides an accessible development framework, but we also take additional steps.

2. Measures We Take for Accessibility

We work toward inclusive and barrier-free access through:

Website Design & Structure
  • Consistent, predictable navigation

  • High-contrast color palette for readability

  • Accessible typography with sufficient size and spacing

  • Logical heading structure for screen readers

Alternative Text
  • Alt text added to images, including photos of people, travel locations, graphics, and icons

Keyboard Navigation
  • All key elements can be navigated via keyboard

  • Focus indicators visible and clear

Screen Reader Compatibility
  • Content structured to be compatible with screen readers

  • Descriptive link labels

  • ARIA labels when needed

Video & Audio Content
  • Captions on videos whenever possible

  • Future plan for transcripts, audio descriptions, and multilingual access

Forms & Interactions
  • Clear labels and instructions

  • Proper tab order

  • Error messages that assist the user

3. Accessibility for Deaf & Hard-of-Hearing Users

We are proudly founded by a late-deafened creator, which means accessibility for Deaf and hard-of-hearing users is personal, intentional, and part of our mission.

We aim to:

  • Ensure all key videos include captions

  • Avoid audio-only content

  • Provide written alternatives

  • Offer communication options beyond phone calls

  • Respond to users via email, WhatsApp, or text

4. Accessibility for Blind & Low-Vision Users

We work to provide:

  • Proper alternative text

  • Strong color contrast

  • Scalable text

  • Clear focus outlines and keyboard navigation

  • Compatibility with magnification tools

5. Accessibility for Neurodivergent Users

We aim to support users with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and cognitive processing differences through:

  • Minimal flashing or strobing content

  • Clear, simple layouts

  • Predictable navigation

  • Consistent button styles

  • Easy-to-understand language

  • Avoidance of overwhelming animation

6. Ongoing Improvements

Accessibility is a continuous process. We regularly test:

  • Navigation

  • Color contrast

  • Screen reader experience

  • Keyboard-only navigation

  • Form accessibility

  • Image alt text

We also track and correct issues as they appear.

7. Third-Party Apps

Some areas of our site rely on third-party apps or embedded content. While we cannot fully control accessibility in those areas, we choose tools that prioritize compliance whenever possible.

8. Feedback & Support

If you encounter an accessibility barrier, we want to fix it.
